Land art Vents des Forêts

Since 1997, in the heart of the Meuse département, Lorraine, six villages whose livelihoods are based on farming and forestry have been inviting the artists of today to develop their creative work in tune with the values of the territory. This is the Vent des Forêts - Forest Wind - open air art exhibition.

For the artists, the total immersion in a rural context is what makes the creative adventure of the Vent des Forêts so exciting. As the artists give work together, encounters and memorable creations come to life and transmit their values naturally to those ready to take the time to walk out and discover the works of art on display.

Over 180 works have been created, ninety of which are still here today, along thirty miles of specially signposted forest trails, with seven different walks possible, of between one and four hours.

The works of art have been exposed to the weather and the passage of time. Whether extremely ephemeral or relatively durable, they all show their direct relationship with the natural environment.

The Maisons Sylvestres (“Woodland Homes”) created by designer Matali Crasset, are available for rent, having opened in spring 2013. Through this project, the Vents des Forêts invites the visitor to live out a simple and unique experience in a small but optimized space — a true refuge.

A map of the Vents des Forêts is available on request from the association, or can be downloaded.

Free. The best time to visit is between March and September (excluding the hunting season).
